Vision Statement of
Augustus Edwin Justin, S.L.M.P

The Augustus Edwin Justin Foundation was established as a non-profit organization in
March 2005 with the broad mission of
improving the quality of life of the poor, elderly and
destitute citizens of St. Lucia and eventually the wider Caribbean region. The
Adelaide and
Frances Memorial Home for the Aged, the brainchild of Mr. Augustus Justin, sought to fill a
dire need in St. Lucia for
comfortable living conditions for those persons who through
unfortunate life circumstances were in great need in their twilight years of
food, clothing,
shelter, and most importantly, community and companionship. The
creation of the
aforementioned Foundation by Mr. Justin and its dedicated
committee marked an important
milestone where the social, humanitarian and
spiritual services previously provided through
the Adelaide and Frances Home
would, in the near future, be extended throughout the
nation and through the
Caribbean region. Herein is described the vision statement of Mr.
Augustus Edwin
Justin, S.L.M.P
The Augustus Edwin Justin Foundation will promote the expansion of elderly
Homes throughout St. Lucia and the wider Caribbean.
The Homes will be managed and supported by and form part of the Foundation, which functions as a non-profit entity. As a non-profit
organization, the Foundation’s primary objective will be to ensure a comfortable lifestyle for the needy elderly citizens in St. Lucia and
the Caribbean. The Foundation will also, as a charitable organization, seek to improve the lives of the poor and destitute and will foster
the development, growth and implementation of ideas to tackle issues related to poverty in general. The Foundation should never
operate under a business model, which is primarily profit driven in purpose. Every Home will fall under the umbrella of the Foundation
and will follow the unique model previously established by the Adelaide and Frances Memorial Home. Subsequent Homes established by
the Foundation should not be operated as an institution, but rather as an open, comfortable and peaceful living environment with an
emphasis on equality and community. The spiritual wellbeing of each resident should also be provided for, with each Home being fitted
with a chapel for quiet moments of meditation.
Each Home will be run by a manager or management committee and supporting
staff. A committee should also be put in place with the responsibility of evaluating
and selecting individuals to be admitted to the Homes. Decisions for selection will
be made on an individual basis. However, persons who have worked very closely
with the Homes, who have provided monthly donations and who have been
dedicated volunteers and workers, will be given priority if the situation arises where
they are in great need of care in their older years.
Family members of Mr. Justin, the
Foundation board of directors, the management committees and staff will not
necessarily receive
automatic priority. A ratio of thirty percent to seventy percent (30%/70%) of paying to non-paying residents will be
maintained. The
financial situation of each potential resident will be carefully evaluated prior to their admittance as residents.
This
income received by the Homes and Foundation as well as donations provided by government, organizations, businesses and
individuals, will be used entirely for supporting every resident and for paying staff. Measures will also be put in place where residents of
the Homes may, if they so choose, will their property and possessions to the Foundation. Any income consequently collected will be
applied to a separate account. This account will serve as a resource for expanding the work of the Foundation, such as introducing new
Homes to regions and locales where a need has been predetermined.
